School Transport – how to get the best out of it

Many families in Kenya rely on school transport to get their children to school and back daily.  Indeed, this is a safe and convenient way to shuttle learners, especially in this day and age where both parents need to juggle careers and family responsibilities.

Many schools in Kenya will offer transport:  either school owned & operated, or outsourced or some variation of the two.  At Educor, our buses are fully owned, as it ensures better management of quality and safety aspects of this very critical service.

Despite the routing challenges and sometimes considerable cost of school transport, it remains the safest and therefore most preferred mode of shuttling your child to and from school.

So, dear parent, here are a few tips on how to make the most of school transport:

  1. Work with the school or transport provider to find the best scheduling for your child.  This requires a give and take approach on both sides.
  2. Ensure your child is ready on time so as to not inconvenience the other children on the route: There’s a simple principle in school transport routing: the farthest child is picked first and dropped last.  Therefore, your location relative to the school will broadly determine your child’s slot in the schedule.
  3. Patience, patience, patience, is the key: When it comes to the safety of a minor, there is no room for compromise.  School buses are held to higher scrutiny when it comes to NTSA regulations.  Your child is about 75 times more likely to arrive to school safely if they take the school bus than other modes of transport.

Fun fact:

Did you know that many children prefer to use the school bus rather than family car to get to school?  They enjoy the social aspects of this mode of transport – talking to friends on the way, getting to know where their friends live, and the opportunity for the detour that the routing provides… now you know.

Best Wishes,
